Where can I find the rules to enter AABA’s 2025 Honey Contest?

Alamo Area Beekeepers Association (‘AABA’) will hold their 2025 Honey Contest on September 16, 2025 during their Membership Meeting.  You must be a member of AABA to enter the contest.  You can join online here.  AABA follows the same official rules as Texas Beekeepers Association (‘TBA’) with a few differences listed below.

  • There will be no entry fees for AABA’s Honey Contest;
  • Only one jar is required for each category entry, and your entry will be returned to you after the winners are announced;
  • Contestants will complete an entry form on 9/16/25 when they submit their entries;
  • There will be four categories:
    • H1 – 1-lb. jar of honey, extracted, light
    • H2 – 1-lb. jar of honey, extracted, amber
    • H3 – 1-lb. jar of honey, extracted, dark
    • H10 – a glass jar filled with extracted honey of any color for the black jar category. Any size/type jar will be accepted as all entries will be placed in identical paper bags. The contents will be judged only on the taste of the honey.
  • First place prize for H1, H2 and H3 is $75 and a ribbon;
  • Second place prize for H1, H2 and H3 is $50 and a ribbon;
  • Third place prize for H1, H2 and H3 is $25 and a ribbon;
  • There will be only a first place prize for H10: $25 and a ribbon.

Here is the link to the main page for TBA’s 2025 honey-judging event and rules:  TBA Texas Honey Show 2025. Included on the main page are two links to additional honey show resources. The link to the honey show rules is found in the middle of the page in a colored box.
